The most important Arabic Book Award

It is an annual award launched by HRH Prince Khaled El Faisal, President of the Arab Thought Foundation, in order to encourage the books writing of specific task.

Objectives: 

By applying the first clause of the terms of the "Partners Initiative for the Arabic Book" that was announced at the conclusion of the Conference of Writing and Copywriting, which was held in Beirut on 1-2 October 2009, His Royal Highness the President of the Arab Thought Foundation, Prince Khalid Al Faisal, declared about the Most Important Arabic Book Award. The first clause of the initiative provisions stipulates the following: "To encourage the qualitative composition of the important books correlated with the Arab community issues and the challenges of the times, as well as to provide material and moral incentives for the most important books published each year".

Vision : 

The value of this award is estimated to one hundred thousand US dollars annually for the Most Important Arabic Book.

Key Outcomes: 

It is expected that the prize shall contribute to the achievement of the objectives behind its launch.

Terms of Nomination for the Most Important Arabic Book Award 2010

  • The nominated book of every year should have been issued during the year before, due to the fact that the award is yearly granted, and that the author should enjoy the nationality of an Arab country.
  • The nomination may be personally, or via a cultural, or educational, or intellectual institution in which the author is a member, or by the publishing house that has released the nominated book.
  • The criterion for nomination is what "importance" the content of the book represents in light of what challenges the Arab world is facing, and the aspirations it looks to, and not the numbers related to the distribution of the book or its prevalence rates.
  • The nomination includes all fields of creativity and knowledge in various fields and disciplines, with the exception of works translated into Arabic.
  • The application should be sent to the mailing address of the Arab Thought Foundation, enclosed with four copies of the nominated book (as well as a letter of candidature by the nominating committee in case the nomination was not individual).

Value of the Award:

The value of the Award is seventy-five thousand dollars for the final winner, and five thousand dollars for the five names reaching the short list of the Award.
