Sources of Funding

The financial resources of the Foundation shall be constituted of the revenue of investment of membership fees, provided by the members of the Board of Trustees and the participating members; these amounts are suspended for the Foundation as a trust for life term, and they expense from its proceeds only, without prejudice to the origin, in addition to the charitable contributions and donations. Therefore, the Foundation may accept any movable or immovable funds, provided to it as a matter of will or disposal or what is similar to the same, in addition to any other financial resources approved by the Board of Trustees. They spend and dispose from the Foundation funds, only on its own specific purposes, and in accordance with the standards and the adopted accounting bases, as well as the provisions mentioned in the Memorandum of Association of the Foundation.

The organizational chart of the Arab Thought Foundation is composed of the following administrations:
•    The General Secretariat
•    The Board of Trustees.
•    The Board of Directors
•    The Advisory Committee.

Details: 

The General Secretariat
It is the executive body, responsible to carry out the daily work of the Foundation, presided by a General Secretary, chosen by the Board of Trustees, according to the candidature of the Board of Directors. The General Secretary shall be in charge to determine the meetings of the General Assembly of the Foundation, the Board of Trustees and the Board of Directors. He shall also execute the resolutions of these parties. The General Secretary shall organize the Foundation management and coordinate the affairs between its different units, having assistant general secretaries.

The actual General Secretariat consists of the following: the General Secretary Dr. Soliman Abdel Moneim (from Egypt), and two Assistant General Secretaries Dr. Mounira El Nahed (from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia) and Mr. Hamad El Ammari (from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia).
The previous General Secretariat consisted of the General Secretary the ambassador Ali Maher El Sayed (from Egypt) and the Assistant General Secretary Dr. Ali Moussa (from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia).  

The Board of Trustees
It is composed of the founder members, and constitutes the supreme authority in the Foundation. It shall develop the general policies, use its assets, choose the members of the Board of Directors, nominate the General Secretary and the Assistant General Secretaries, approve on the annual budget and acknowledge the Foundation lists.

The Board of Directors
It consists of eighteen members, presided by the President of the Foundation. The Board of Trustees shall choose nine of its members, three of them are elected by the participating members, and six are chosen by the General Assembly from amongst the members of the Advisory Committee. The mandate shall be for two years provided that each membership period shall not exceed two rounds for each member. The Board shall prepare financial and administrative lists, organize the good work performance, lay down proposals on different methodologies to manage the financial investments, set forth proposals on ways to preserve and develop the Foundation resources, as it shall control its expenditures. It shall be accountable for all the Foundation operations before the Board of Trustees and shall be delegated powers and prerogatives to manage the Foundation, set forth its programs, its technical, financial and managerial policies to be carried out by the Board of Trustees.

The Advisory Committee
It consists of a number of intellectuals and specialists designated by the Board of Trustees from different specializations with relation to the operations and programs of the Foundation. The members of the Advisory Committee shall be changed every two years. There have been two Advisory Committees, and the Foundation is now about to constitute a new Advisory Committee.
The General Assembly consists of the members of the Board of Trustees, the participating members, the honorary members and the Advisory Committee members. It shall meet once per annum, at least, and choose six members from amongst the Advisory Committee for the membership of the Board of Directors. It shall also review the Foundation annual report and express opinions on the projects, programs and plans.

Foundation Goals

The Arab Thought Foundation is represented by the following:
•    Promoting the pride taken in the nation core values and identity, through convenient cultural programs.
•    Entrenching ideas and events acting to reject all causes of discrimination, achieving the nation’s solidarity and mainstreaming its efforts towards the Higher Arab Interest.
•    Taking care of all sorts of knowledge and science, focusing on future studies and benefiting from modern technologies.
•    Honoring the pioneers, supporting the innovators and sponsoring the talented from among the Arab nation fellows.
•    Promoting communications with Arab immigrant brains and Institutions and drawing upon their experiences.
•    Coordinating and communicating with individuals and bodies concerned with the cultural and thoughtful Arabic solidarity, as well as the international and regional organizations and institutions related to the Arabic concern.
•    Drawing up cultural and media projects that contribute in disseminating the Arab intellect on the international scene, and correcting the erroneous perceptions held towards the Arab society.

Foundation Headquarters

The Arab Thought Foundation started its preparatory activity in a temporary headquarter in the city of Abha in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, then it has moved in the capital Beirut, in a temporary headquarter related to Solidere Company, until they have bought and established an independent building for the Foundation, officially inaugurated on 25/04/2006, by His Highness the President of the Foundation, with the presence of a number of senior Lebanese personalities and members of the Foundation.

Establishment

The initiative of establishment was launched in Beirut on 29/5/2000, upon the occasion of the celebration of the capital Beirut as the Arab cultural capital. Prince Khalid Al Faisal has called, in a speech pronounced during this celebration, for an initiative of solidarity between intellectuals and businessmen, adopted by an Arabic civil foundation, aiming to contribute to the Arabic renaissance and solidarity.

Details: 

It was held in Cairo on 10-11/3/1422 H, corresponding to 2-3/6/2001, the constitutional meeting after that the idea has crystallized, and the meeting resulted in the following:
•    Determine the goals of the Foundation.
•    Choose the Prince Khalid Al Faisal as a Chairman of the Foundation.
•    Choose Beirut as the headquarters of the Foundation.
•    Determine the financial contributions of the members of the Board of Trustees.

The Arab Thought Foundation was registered in Beirut, on 01/08/1422H, corresponding to 18/10/2001. After that, the Lebanese Council of Ministers issued the Decree no. 6605 approving the registration of the Foundation and granting it and its employees all the necessary privileges and immunities in order to perform all its functions, like the international and regional organizations working in the framework of the United Nations. Under the scope of defining the Foundation and its mission, His Highness Prince Khalid Al Faisal visited most Arabic leaders, as well as decision makers, religious leaders, international organizations, intellectuals and Arabic scientists.
